The Shannon Wheeler Mortgage Team
The Shannon Wheeler Mortgage Team
Growing up in Nashville, Tennessee provided me with a front row seat to the type of dynamic growth that can happen in a city over a lifetime. This shaped my future in ways I could only imagine at the time.
After high school, I enlisted in the U. S. Navy. I spent 4 years serving aboard the USS Thomas S. Gates (CG-51), including a tour in Desert Shield/Desert Storm. That led me to an additional year on joint duty at Scott AFB in southern Illinois.
Returning to civilian life in Nashville in 1995 led to a couple of stints in marketing and promotions work in the publishing industry.
Then, in 1997, I ran into a childhood friend who told me about a thing called “the mortgage business”. His family and some friends had begun a mortgage brokerage operation. He offered me a chance to come check it out. I thought, “I like people, I can count. What do I have to lose?” The first time I refinanced a customer from 8.5% to 7%, I was hooked. You mean, I get to save this family money AND get paid to help? Then, when I figured out how to help people (including myself) actually, BUY real estate – that was amazing. I never knew such things were even done, much less that I could be the person that could help! Even during and after the market crash in the late 2000s, this career has never left me without opportunities to help. They may look different, with different market conditions, but all opportunities to help, nonetheless.
Over my career, I have literally helped thousands of people live out their lives in homes they love! I have helped just as many people realize their dreams of growing wealth through real estate. I have also had the opportunity to help people solve difficult real estate related challenges that life can present.
During this 25-year span, my life experienced the same dynamic growth that I saw play out in my hometown. Along with this career, came a family, friends, clients, partners, and an ever-unfolding adventure that continues to challenge and reward. Among all of the “things” that go into life, it is these relationships that stand out.
I could go into more detail about the numbers, accomplishments, education, training, etc., that come with a successful career. However, more than any other thing that has happened in the past, this adventure has left me with one invaluable understanding. The only thing that really matters is the present moment. That is the only time any of these past accomplishments actually took place. And, it is the time you are reading this, and the time I am writing it. It is also the only time I can continue to co-create with my family, friends, clients and partners.
The growth in Middle Tennessee will continue. I will continue to help my clients save money, make money, and grow wealth through owning real estate. We can look up 25 years from now and we will see the evidence plainly. But, every single part of it will happen in the present moment. Thank you for spending this one with me.
